Growing with life and its challenges

Overcoming obstacles and living a healthy lifestyle

Mental, Emotional, Physical, and Spiritual Health

It all started back in July 2013 when I had my first daughter Maliya. During this pregnancy, I had gained the most weight I had ever seen in my lifetime. I had her when I was 21 years old, and until that age, I had never weighed more than 110lbs. Would you believe that in the hospital, my weight was 156 lbs? Can you imagine how that felt to me?

I was a receptionist for a Pediatrics office, and I worked until I was 39 weeks pregnant. I worked with three pediatric women doctors who were teaching me good eating habits I would never follow. I had never exercised intentionally in my life before. Of course, I already had an athletic body growing up, so it never crossed my mind. I am guessing this was because I had nothing to challenge my bodily hormones.

That all changed when I had my first daughter. Not only was I experiencing stress from other sources like money and relationships, I had never developed a confidence level in my extra weight.

I felt horrible, fat, ugly, insecure, and so many other names. Unfortunately, it was challenging to change my negative self-perspective. My mental, emotional, and physical health was declining. I was last on my list.

For many years I lived an unhealthy lifestyle. My diet included eating fast foods, noodles, salty meals, and things that could cause a heart attack any day. I always knew one day I’d have to change my habits.

I knew it would take a lot of strength, persistence, and knowledge to break these habits I had lived in and created. After five years of parenting, I somehow found the strength to exercise and regain my confidence. I was about 150 lbs and lost almost 30! I felt good and was living my best life.

However, I got pregnant not too long after I began my alternative lifestyle and had my second baby in 2018. I gained all the weight back!
I knew it was time to make a lifestyle change if I could unconsciously go back to my old ways; It meant I was not all the changed. I invested my time in self-development over the next few years.

I learned I was living in a subconscious program that affected the ways I respond to life. Not only that, but I started to understand the brain and how it works. The best part is I implemented what I learned in my life then things started changing.

I realized I could have never lived a healthy lifestyle physically if my mental and emotional health were not together. I would always come back to the same mindset that got me where I didn’t want to be. So, I worked on that first.

I understood why making a change was so hard and why I had failed so many times. I let go of some past issues, people, and moved on with my life. I learned that my energy and surrounding matters and changed those as well.

I did the inner work then my outer life changed. I remember back in the old days; I had never had the inspiration or motivation to clean, and it took so much from me. Well, now I won’t stop cleaning.

Anyways, all of that said to tell you about my new lifestyle. On May 5 of this year (2021), I began my Vegan journey. And I started it for a few different reasons. I no longer want to support cruelty against animals; I no longer will choose to be blind to what I am consuming and putting into my body; I am confident my health will be better, and I trust that this is my path.

It has been a month now, and I have consistently eaten a vegan diet. No meat, dairy, or any of that stuff! I am proud of myself for the self-control, self-discipline, and ability to pause and pay attention! There is so much more to this journey, and I want to share it with you as I go on with it.
